The National Character Education Quiz (NCEQ) Competition took place on the 26th and 27th November 2019 at the Korkdam Hotel Conference Center and saw Silicon Valley being crowned Champions for 2019. All competing schools came prepared and poised to win the trophy and to attain the champions status.

The NCEQ is a competition for JHS Students with the aim of teaching the Peaceful Solution Character Education Program (PSCEP) as a tool for positive character development. It’s a project by the Peaceful Character Education Foundation (PCEF). Being a participant of the NCEQ would give both students and teachers an opportunity to learn diverse ways of building a strong positive character. It presents an opportunity to learn a lot of practical ways to solve common societal and national problems. The School benefits from having young students and teachers alike with strong positive moral values which would have a ripple effect of changing the hearts and minds of not only participants but the entire teacher and student body.

With the NCEQ students can become directly involved in the propagation of peace as well as train to become Peer Instructors who will go on to teach the simple concepts of the PSCEP to other students and their communities at large. Anybody can complain about the moral decadence, violent community clashes, social vices and the corruption plaguing our society. However, those who seek to do something to change the situation for the better are the true leaders.

A total of 9 Schools were represented for this year’s competition namely Start Rite School, Royal Family School, Jehovah Shammah School, Faithful Grace School, North Star School, Blessed Home School, Calvary Redemption School, Kindacare Montessori School and Silicon Valley School. 6 Schools were debutants and 3 returning for the second year including Start Rite School who won it last year 2018.

The competition comes in four different segments, which are the Question & Answer (Q&A) Segment , Presentation Segment, Poetry and Drama Segments and the Tie Breaker Segment.

Three schools made it out of the 9 to the finals; Jehovah Shammah School, Blessed Home School and Silicon Valley School. At the end of the finals 2 schools, Jehovah Shammah and Silicon Valley School were tie with the same point and sent the quiz further into Round 4 which is the tie breaker round. Silicon Valley emerged winners after this very intensive final round and Jehovah Shammah followed as 1st Runners up. Blessed Home School came in as 2nd  Runners Up.

Various awards were presented to all the schools and students including Certificates, PSCEP Books, miscellaneous prices from sponsors and Cash Awards. Presentations of awards were made by representatives from our various sponsors including;  iBit Soft, Citsys Co Ltd, Nexvelsoft and Ghanaye Ltd.

We look forward to the NCEQ 2020 and ask all cooperate bodies to come on board to support and be partners with The Peaceful Character Education Foundation (PCEF) -www.peacefulcharacter.org in our mission of “shaping the next generation of future leaders” for Ghana.
